It is the DEAD of winter & since mid fall I vowed to take an extensive, much needed break. So, I did.
Turns out, taking a break doesn't work for me. My feelings and nerves and stress (which hardly surfaces) gets pent up and besides coffee...I have no release, so I've found myself getting irritable and easily annoyed with anything and everything. I knew I needed to shoot, but what?! WHAT DO I SHOOT? Where the hell do you find inspiration when the days are practically 5 hours long and dreadfully cold? I wasn't sure. And truthfully, I wasn't looking. But...it found me.
....one night, my niece & nephew spent the night as they often do on Fridays so that their parents may have their own time. I can't say enough about these children, the are just wonderfully behaved, incredibly polite and as sweet as pie, actually SWEETER. Also, they fall asleep any time between 5:30 and 7 I swear it.
Anyways, I eventually went to bed. I expected to get up much earlier than I usually do the very next day; early sleepers equal early risers...we all know that.
ALAS! Actually, it IS incredibly true. Especially on this particular morning.
See....my niece is about 4 foot tall with platinum hair, beautiful!
But, when she stands by your bed with that beautiful, platinum hair covering her somber, silent face it comes off haunting instead when you aren't quite awake yet.
I felt like something or someone was staring at me in my dead sleep. Glassed and crusty eyed...I opened them to see this very silhouette standing there and jumped out of my own skin. I absolutely didn't immediately remember I had this little beauty sleep over, nor did I expect her to wake me in such a manner so naturally and instantly I assumed there was a small girl ghost, staring me down ready to eat my soul.
After coming to, I just...felt this NEED to shoot what I saw. Then, it all came together rather perfectly. A week later my family & I were in a small town in Nebraska for Christmas and an antique shop was calling my name....duh. This dress, this beautiful dress was surely there just for me, just for this shoot. I bought it and gathered a few other 'eerie' things to use and VOILA!
Inspiration comes in waves. Ride those waves, embrace the calm. In the calm, make blog posts...lord knows I need to catch up on that.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
